ALL TIME GREATS

I have been meaning to blog for a while now but couldn't get myself to do it;lazy me.
I have been getting requests to blog on a topic like this for a while now and i've decided to take it up.
There are a number of singers/musicians; both local and international who are usually overlooked. This is a common phenomenon these days with many artistes going commercial and watering down the quality of the music they are putting out. Therefore, the ones who are really making music and not noise are ''buried''. *sad tales*
Anyway, that is a topic for another day.....If u ask any person who the greatest musician of all time that they know, u'd probably get Michael Jackson for an answer. I'm not going to say Michael(R.I.P) wasn't a great musician but he wasn't the only great  one. In some peoples' books, he wasn't the greatest. He was really just a brilliant entertainer who pushed himself a lot;even to death.
In my book of greats, there are very many names. Music is universal and a lot of people love it and are talented in that aspect but in my top ten are artistes whom when i listen to any/most of their works, my soul is touched, my spirit is healed and their lyrics move my mind to deep thought.

Men10. Joe Cocker

  9. Jay-Z (Shawn Carter)

8. David Ruffin
7.Luther Vandross
6. Steven Tyler(he's crazy but he's crazy 'bout music too)
5.Sam Cooke(very few singers can do justice to ''A change is gonna come'') R.I.P
4. James Brown(godfather of soul)
3. Stevie Wonder(he inspired me to play the piano)
2. Marvin Gaye(the only person i know that can make the American anthem sound like a love song)
1. Ne-yo(he is a phenomenon in music #period!)

I can't but include Michael Jackson, George Michael, Sir Elton John, Paul McCartney and locally, King Sunny Ade, Ebenezer Obey, Sir Shina Peters, Salewa Abeni (people who will always be relevant in music to music lovers)

Women: In no particular order.........
Whitney Houston(her voice is very crap now tho) *SMH*
Mariah Carey(18 number1's...and counting!)
Mary J Blige(one of the first singers i ever listened to)
Aretha Franklin
Tina Turner(this is whom Beyonce was majorly inspired by)
Christina Aguilera (her vocal range is outta this world!)
Alicia Keys(never fails to bring purely beautiful music)

Beyonce' Knowles-Carter(no words to describe how musically awesome she is)
Lauryn Hill(sadly, she's left 'commercial' music;now the likes of Lady Gaga are dominating and poisoning our ears)
I cannot but add Etta James, Gladys Knight, Dolly Parton.

You might agree or choose to disagree with my list... it may well be a partial list.
 xoxo :)

New Artistes In Nigeria!!!!

HIYA! i'm back.....ok so, i've been hearing new music form new and upcoming artistes in Nigeria. Some of the music i heard, i'd rate as average tho but there's also a lot of good work in there. (the music biz)
     I'll start off with the presently projected artistes signed unto EME records(Banky W);
    SKALES!
This guy CAN spit bars! honestly! his work(the ones i have heard) were simply IT! especially ''Heading For A Grammy''. If he keeps getting good beats and producers to work with, i think he really could be much bigger than he is now. I heard he is cocky tho (from very reliable sources). But then, when you are this good, like 'WALE'(DC chilling) said, you got the right to be cocky!
NB: SKALES, SEE AS I'M GIVING YOU FREE PROMO! *wink*

Next up is WizKidAyo.

THIS GUY! Apparently, he schools at LeadCity Uni but well, he doesn't really go to school tho(so i heard from amebos), they say he is busy doing big boy with Banky W. (You didn't hear it from me oh)
Recently on my twitter timeline, i saw loads of boys and even some girls tweeting about how hot the main girl in Wizkid's new video ''holla at your boy'' (youtube.com) is. So, curious me went to check out the video. Honestly, no hating but the girl in the video, she pretty and got long hair(cos she's not fully of naij descent so....dur) but sexy? y'all need to get ur eyes checked! no hatin tho. Every one's entitled to their opinion. :)
NOW! about the song: it was the average high school type song about swag and getting chicks but KUDOS for hyping it up well.
I heard he's shooting another video for a ''freestyle'' song. I wonder why tho. I went to check out the song titled ''TEASE ME'' and it was far from what i expected! He barely said anything sensible in the song. It was just as bad as D'banj's ''I DO THIS'' ------>refer to (youtube.com) except that the beat of ''tease me'' is better.
Maybe it's just me but hey! everyone got an opinion right?

ONTO OTHER ''NON-EME RECORDS'' ARTISTES...

ICE PRINCE ZAMANI

This dude went hard on that OLEKU song. The beat is so chilled. Although i must admit, i didn't really like the song when i first heard it but that's because i was expecting to hear something like a dance beat. He's one to watch.

MUNA

I don't know how but i found this babe on twitter one day and recognised her from MBGN 2007! she won the competition tho. I saw her ''about'' mention something about her being a rapper so i did some investigation.
People keep going on and on about how good she is. I heard her on ''Lagos Party'' remix and i thought, hmmnn....she's alrite. Not all the lines were TOPS but for a starter, ex-beauty queen, she wasn't bad at all.
Then i heard she did a song on a david guetta beat. Till date, i dunno if it was a david guetta collabo with her or if she just rapped to one of his beats to another song. (i haven't heard the song before tho) it's called ''I FEEL REAL'' you might want to check on youtube tho.
NB: she DOESN'T like Jason Derulo and disses him on twitter so if u like Jason Derulo, you won't like her and/or if you dislike artistes that shoot down other artistes, you WON'T like her either.

TIWA SAVAGE

I first heard this babe thru a link on my facebook. It was her rendition of Nigeria's anthem on independence day (Oct 1) It was a lovely acapella ;) i approve! It has been said that she WILL dominate the charts next year so....wizkid, enjoy your time while it lasts.

OMAWUMI
I cheated on this one. She's not very new. She came 2nd place in the west african idols held in 2008 or so.
She has really paved the way for herself by showing up at award ceremonies and performing. I wish her luck.

TIMI
This guy actually won the west african idols maiden edition. He's voice is very soothing. Sort of reminds me of luther vandross. Check out his new single ''I LOVE YOU'' featuring Jesse Jags. My rating 4/5 only because i don't give 5/5. *wide grin*

WAJE

Waje is THE VOICE behind ''DO ME'' --p square. She's got two singles out now, ''KOLO'' and ''FOR A MINUTE'' i prefer for a minute tho. #justpersonalpreference . Kolo is a nice party jam tho.

LYNXX

This is the dude who sang ''CHANGE YOUR PARADE'', haven't heard much from him lately tho but, still expecting....

DJINEE

This bloke likes to feel like one special never before seen guitarist! He can SINNNGG tho! can't hate.....

MO' CHEDDA

I absolutely LOVE her stage name! Her voice has a certain swagger, although her ''if you want me'' video didn't do much justice to her. Not sayin it was a bad video, just could have been better but it was good enough for a first. She is defintely not camera shy (wiz kid take note) I'm expecting more from this babe :)

BRYMO
Tried searching for his photos on google but all to no avail. Same goes for Chuddy K

I didn't mention JESSE JAGS AND M.I because those two have been in the biz for a long while now but most people are only just taking notice of them but really, i feel need no introduction.
